Scout-N-Hunt Mobile Maps takes habitat mapping to the next level!

System requirements
Operation system:Microsoft Windows 7/8/10

Requisite software:Microsoft.NET Fframework 4.5.2+

Android 4.0 or later (Google Pixels, Nexus, HTC, Samsung, OnePlus, Moto, LG, etc.)

Requires iOS 9.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

 

Android Instructions

Please Note this is important!!!

Before you can use the maps you must download the App to your tablet, phone or install the App on your PC.  The app is what will read the map 

The maps are very large files. Once you start your download do not tap on the file or you will interrupt the download.  Give it time to load.  Depending on the age of your device and the internet service this can make a difference in download speeds. 

 

Good internet service is needed only for downloading the map. After that the map can be read without any internet or cell service. 

Opening your Scout-N-Hunt Map Files (after downloading the map)

  1. Start by opening the CarryMap app.

  2. If not already there, tap the word ‘Maps.’

  3. Then tap ‘This Device’

    1. If you have no external memory card, or if you want to download to your internal memory, go to step 4.

    2. If you have an external memory card then the downloads will go to the external memory.

    3. Now tap on /storage/####-#### (the numbers will be different for every device), now proceed to step 4.

  4. Scroll to the folder you downloaded your map to and tap on it. Typically the map will be located in   ‘Downloads.’

  5. Tap on the file you want to open. This file will now show in “Recent” area.

Known issue with (IOS)

IOS sometimes has issues with downloading large files that are associated with other apps.  

There are two steps that can be used to work around this issue Step one is the easier of the two

Step one below is the easier process

1. Open iTunes on your desktop computer

2. Connect your mobile device to your desktop computer via cord 

3. In iTunes windows select your connected device, click Applications, then CarryMap

4. Drag and drop the maps (.cmf2 files) you want to open on your mobile device to the files section

5. You will then be prompted for a password to open the map file

 

However if you want to download the map files directly to your device.

  1. Go to Settings/Display & Brightness/AutoLock and set it to “Never” until downloads are finished.

  2. When you click on the link to download the file you will see a blank page during the download, please be patient during the download as this is normal.

  3. To ensure completion, do not use your device or lock the screen while downloads are in progress.

  4. You will be prompted to open the map file with CarryMap when the download completes.

  5. You will then be prompted for a password to open the map file

 

How to Open your Map File iOS

  1. Open the CarryMap app.

  2. If not already there, tap ‘Maps.’

  3. Tap ‘Home.’

  4. Tap on the file you want to open. This file will now show in “Recent” area.

  5. You will then be prompted for a password to open the map file

Make sure you have downloaded the App first.  App is what reads the maps files.

Open your Map File on Windows PC

  1. Go to the folder where you downloaded the map file.

  2. Double click on the file

 

Basic Features - How to

If connected to Wi-Fi or cell phone signal and want to view Aerial Imagery or other free base map data follow these steps.

  1. Open CarryMap App and the map you downloaded.

  2. Tap the Menu button or Content at the upper left.

  3. Tap on the name of the map you are using, not the check mark, not the down arrow.

  4. Turn off the topo layer by tapping on the far right switch.

  5. Press the back button again at the top left if the menu closes.

  6. Repeat step 2 if needed.

  7. Tap Select Base map.

  8. Select a Base map.

Create coordinates for your location or a point of interest without creating a layer 

  1. Open CarryMap App and the map you downloaded.

  2. Long Press on an area of interest or your current location. (On iOS the screens are very sensitive, if the screen moves at all after you touch it, lift your finger and try again)

  3. Tap Show Coordinates.

Create a point of interest and enter coordinates of the point

  1. Open CarryMap App and the map you downloaded.

  2. Tap on the 3 dots at the top right of the screen.

  3. Tap on Go To Coordinates.

  4. Enter the latitude and longitude you are interested in marking. If not sure of the format, see the basic feature above. Don't forget the - symbol.

  5. Tap OK and the screen will zoom to this point.

Measure length or area 

  1. Open CarryMap App and the map you downloaded.

  2. Tap on the 3 dots at the top right of the screen.

  3. Tap Measure length or area

  4. Tap on the screen at least two times for length, at least three times for area.

  5. Tap the menu button at the bottom right to change units or to close the measurement.

View a full Legend for map items or turn layers off?

  1. Open CarryMap App and the map you downloaded.

  2. Tap on the menu button or Content at the top left.

  3. Tap on the map name, not the check box, not the drop down arrow.

  4. Tap on the group or folder of layers you are interested in. For example, BLM Data.

  5. Tap the drop down arrows on the left side to show the individual symbology per layer.

  6. If you find a layer you don't want displayed, tap the switch on the right side of it.

Want to identify items while looking at the map?

  1. Open CarryMap App and the map you downloaded.

  2. Long Press on an area of interest or your current location. (On iOS the screens are very sensitive, if the screen moves at all after you touch it, lift your finger and try again)

  3. Tap "Show all Objects Here". All activated layers under your area of interest are shown.

  4. Tap on a specific symbol to get more information. (Names of water features, roads, website addresses)

If you'd like to collect line data (record a Line/Track for future reference)

  1. Open CarryMap App and the map you downloaded.

  2. Tap the walking person icon at the upper left. 

  3. You'll be asked to select a layer to edit, if this is your first time, select "Create a New Layer".

  4. Name your new layer, or just click Add Layer.

  5. Begin walking with your device and you'll see the line get created behind you.

  6. When you are done recording, tap the pencil icon at the bottom right with the check mark on it to save it.

  7. Tap on the blue bar at the bottom to see the line attributes (information about your line).

  8. Change the Name to something you'll remember later and tap save.

  9. Tap the 3 dots at the top right and tap Close.

Create a point (pushpin) for your CURRENT LOCATION

  1. Open CarryMap  App and the map you downloaded.

  2. Tap the 3 dot button at the top right.

  3. Tap Add Pushpin by GPS

  4. You'll be asked to select a layer to edit, if this is your first time, select "Create a New Layer".

  5. Name your new layer, or just click Add Layer.

  6. The new pushpin point has been added.

  7. Tap on the blue bar at the bottom to see the point attributes (information about your point).

  8. Change the Name to something you'll remember later and tap save.

  9. If you want to attach a photo to the point, tap the paperclip icon at the top right.

  10. Tap the plus icon at the top right.

  11. Tap the Gallery or Camera button at the bottom.

  12. Give CarryMap Permissions to take or access your photos if prompted.

  13. Take your photo or select a photo. Tap use photo if you took a new one.

  14. Tap Save at the top right, and back at the top left.

  15. Tap the 3 dots at the top right and tap Close or Hide Details.
